La Mortella Ischia, Bay of Naples
Captured in 2026
The air in lower garden hangs heavy, thick with the perfume of jasmine, green ferns, and damp earth. The dominant element water, flows over stone paths and cascades from water fountains.
The path winds upward past dry stone walls that hold the heat of the day. Water gives way to the warmth of the earth. The fire of the sun bathing olive, myrtle, lavender, and rosemary. Their floral scents carry on the breeze.
The element of air takes command in the upper garden. The breeze lifts off the Bay of Forio, a gentle, salty current that gently rustles leaves. Birds sit like kites high above, their silhouettes sharp against the sky.
An awe inspiring place I thought, well worth the ferry.
